ELIA VIVIANI POWERS BACK TO VICTORY. Triumphant sprint at the Tour of Beijing
First stage brings first win: Viviani’s seventh in 2012
Liquigas-Cannondale has secured its 37th win of the season in China. The man to thank is one the team’s most promising young riders, Elia Viviani, who after a series of brilliant but unsuccessful sprint finishes is savouring the taste of victory again. The Italian now has seven wins under his belt in 2012 and when he returns to Italy will conclude a very long season during which he has excelled both on the roads and on the track, where his experience culminated in the Olympic Games in London.
Viviani won the first of the five stages at the Tour of Beijing by outsprinting Fenn, Boasson Hagen and Van Hummel at the end of today’s 117 km opener from Tiananmen Square to the Olympic Stadium. Viviani’s victory takes him to the top of every classification at the Tour of Beijing: general, sprint and young rider.
