Liquigas-Cannondale back on the road at Trofeo Melinda
All eyes will be on Moser and Capecchi in Trentino on Saturday

Giro d’Italia, the first grand tour of the season, is over and Liquigas-Cannondale opens the hectic June schedule on the demanding parcours of the Trofeo Melinda. The green-blue team has ambitious plans for tackling the 199 kilometres from Malè to Fondo in Trentino on Saturday, 2nd June.

Moreno Moser hails from Palù di Giovo in Trentino so he’ll be hoping for a home advantage to help him secure his third victory of the season after the Trofeo Laigueglia and the GP in Frankfurt. The “Melinda” also marked his debut racing with the pros: he was a trainee in August 2011. Eros Capecchi is lined up to be the co-leader and plans to capitalise on his good condition following his hard work in the Giro. They will be joined by another local Trentino boy, Daniel Oss, and Stefano Agostini, Tiziano Dall’Antonia, Alan Marangoni and Juraj Sagan. Paolo Slongo will be in charge of DS duties.

«We’ve got a good team although we’re still fine-tuning a few aspects. » explained Slongo, «We’ll try to set the pace to support our two leaders, Moser and Capecchi. They both have the right stuff to be competitive on a tricky route like the one in the Melinda. Fitness could be the decisive factor here: Moreno has come back to racing after some downtime and a training camp in the mountains, whereas Eros goes into the Melinda after grafting in the Giro which was tough but should be useful. With these two guys we are very positive about the outcome on Saturday. »
