MORENO MOSER BOLTS TO TOUR DE POLOGNE STAGE WIN. The young Italian takes the stage and GC jersey
Another Moser “shot” in the finale to seal fourth win of the season
Moreno Moser relentlessly accelerated over the final 700 meters to take his second stage at the Tour de Pologne. Liquigas-Cannondale’s 21-year-old played his best hand in the sixth stage (Bukovina Terma-Bukowina Tatrzanska, 191 km). After resisting the group’s attempt to drop off riders in the demanding finale, Moser held his position in the lead group and only left it when he produced an incredible burst of speed to catch Henao, who had already kicked towards victory. Only Kwiatkowski managed to follow Moser, with whom the Italian is vying for the general classification’s yellow jersey: thanks to the winning time bonus, Moser is now top of the GC with a 5” advantage. The Tour de Pologne wraps up tomorrow with the final stage: a 131-km circuit in Kraków, which should be one for the sprinters.
«I’d been targeting this stage since the race began because it was perfect for my abilities. » explained Moser «I felt really good this morning and thought to myself that I didn’t want to miss my chance. The only time I was worried was after the last lap of the circuit, before the finish line, because cramp was setting in. The descent helped me to recover, and then I already knew what I wanted to do. Henao was ruining my plans but he was a useful point of reference. I also wanted to distance Kwiatkowski to have a decent lead in the general classification. I’ve got five seconds on him but that’s no peace of mind because although tomorrow’s stage is for sprinters, he’ll try to make that up with time bonuses: it’s going to be a very tough stage. »
Today’s win is number four for Moser this season, taking Liquigas-Cannondale up to 33.
