GIRO, 14th stage: here are the climbs, Ivan Basso says present
Race of control for the Liquigas-Cannondale´s captain



The Giro d´Italia entered today in its crucial week. In Cervinia, summit finish of the 14th stage (started in Cherasco and long 206 km) Liquigas-Cannondale´s captain Ivan Basso and its teammates presented a positive performance. Among the bests prevailed the tactics: only Hesjedal earned 26" and re-conquered the pink jersey. In general classification Basso is in fifth position with 1´06" of delay from the leader.



“We know that was an hard stage - said Basso - and the weather created more difficulties on the climbs. With my teammates we lead the group with high rhythm to control the race avoid any attacks. We chose this strategy of containment also because was the first mountain stage and the forces of my opponents were at the same level. This is why, in the final, I preferred to wait and to don´t force: it would be hard for me to make the difference. It was better to save some energies for tomorrow”.
