Worlds 2012: Liquigas-Cannondale unveils six-man squad for the team time trial
Sunday, 16th September: the new Worlds team challenge. Precautionary weekend off for Moreno Moser
Liquigas-Cannondale has revealed its team time trial line-up for the World Championships in Limburg in the Netherlands. The new Worlds title was introduced by the UCI this year, and will be decided on Sunday, 16th September: the 53.2 km route starts in Sittard and finishes in Valkenburg.
The six men selected by the team’s directeurs sportifs DS Mario Scirea and Paolo Slongo are Vincenzo Nibali, Peter Sagan, Maciej Bodnar (Polish national time trial champion), Tiziano Dall’Antonia, Kristijan Koren and Maciej Paterski. Moreno Moser will not race as the team decided to rest him as a precaution so he can prepare for the important upcoming events. «Moreno has just completed two demanding missions in the form of the Pro Challenge in Colorado and back-to-back Québec and Montréal Grands Prix which involved a lot of travelling. » Scirea explained. «He has been called up to represent Italy in the road race plus he has other important races planned so we preferred to rest him so he could fully recover. »
The World Championships team time trial will be an intriguing challenge for Liquigas-Cannondale. «This discipline certainly isn’t new but being part of the Worlds program makes it a special race. » Scirea continued. «It’s a demanding parcours and the long distance will really test the teams. We’ve selected the strongest possible team in terms of aptitude and condition: we’re well-equipped and ready to try and secure an impressive result. Our only regret is that we haven’t been able to do any specific training because of our busy calendar. Despite this though I know that the guys will give everything they’ve got to do this race justice. »
