GIRO, 2nd stage: no risks in the first test of the wind

Teamwork for Liquigas-Cannondale to escape uninjured

The second stage of Giro d’Italia (207 km, start and finish in Herning) behave well for Liquigas-Cannondale. The great enemy of the day, the wind, didn’t create big problems to the team and to its captain Ivan Basso, although the work wasn’t easy.

«These stages – explains Basso – are heavy first of all in terms of nerves and concentration. The wind can change the situation in any moments or offer the chance to teams to create confusion in the group. My teammates were great: we ran all time in the first positions of the group and we always get on the ball. We did our job in the best way».

«Today’s orders was to protect Ivan and don’t run any risks – affirms DS Zanatta -. We knew what awaited us and the only things to do, in stages like this, is ride together. Tomorrow we’ll repeat the same script».

Third stage, the last in Denmark before the return in Italy, will start and finish in Horsens: 190 kilometres and again the wind as protagonist.
