MORENO MOSER WINS THE TOUR DE POLOGNE. First stage race for Liquigas-Cannondale’s neopro
The Italian maintained 5 second lead over Kwiatkowski. «Great satisfaction and super experience: I’ve learned about responsibility»
The last stage of the Tour de Pologne held no surprises for Liquigas-Cannondale and Moreno Moser. The team, directed by DS Mariuzzo and Conte, defended the yellow jersey taken with yesterday’s win and protected the 21-year-old Italian’s lead over Polish rider Kwiatkowski. The day’s breakaway neutralised the risks of bonuses in the intermediates sprints while the finish was contested by pure sprinters in driving rain. Moser replicated Sagan’s success in 2011 to give Liquigas-Cannondale its 34th win of the season.
«This victory is a great satisfaction and also slightly liberating, » explained Moser, «When I lost the leader’s jersey on Saturday, I didn’t think I could get it back, but today I was determined to keep it. I’m also very happy about the trust and support from the team: a big thanks to all the guys. For the first time I’ve understood what having a sense of responsibility means in a stage race, like learning to hang in there every day. The Tour de Pologne parcours suited my style of riding and my condition was always good. Apart from the victory, the best result was that I improved day after day. »
